Benedetta Tagliabue

Benedetta Tagliabue is director of Miralles Tagliabue EMBT, the Barcelona firm she founded in 1994 with the late Enric Miralles. The practice’s Barcelona work includes the Gas Natural Building, Santa Caterina Market and Diagonal Mar Park. Other significant European projects include the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, recipient of the 2005 Stirling Prize, Utrecht Town Council, and Music School of Hamburg. The work of Miralles Tagliabue EMBT ranges from public space and landscape design to commercial buildings, restoration projects, retail centres, interior architecture and installations.

Benedetta Tagliabue’s first project in Asia was the Spanish Pavilion at Expo 2010, Shanghai, which received RIBA’s Best International Building award. In 2010, Miralles Tagliabue EMBT opened a Shanghai office. Current projects include the Business School of Fudan University in Shanghai, office towers in Taiwan and Taichung, the Clichy-Montfermeil Metro station in Paris and the Centro Direzionale metro station in Naples.

Tagliabue’s awards include the Spanish National Design Award, the Catalan National Prize and the City of Barcelona Prize. In 2103, she received the RIBA Jencks Award, presented to an individual or practice that has made a major contribution internationally to both the theory and practice of architecture. Tagliabue teaches at the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB), and her work has been exhibited in Brazil, Venezuela, the United States, France, Italy and Spain.
